A deeper look at our services

    M&E

Our services cover the traditional building services such as heating, ventilation, water and drainage plus the specialist elements such as medical gas systems, vacuum systems and contaminated wastewater treatment.

In some cases our team will go the extra mile to understand the logistics of the infrastructure within the healthcare environment. A recent project of ours includes the Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby which required a full 3D scan of the existing plant room to create accurate dimensions.

    Electrical

Our electrical engineering services cover the traditional building services such as lighting, power and data, plus specialist elements such as Nurse Call Systems and Access Control.

In previous projects we have created detailed lighting simulations using DIALux software, which allowed us to verify that light levels met the standards set by the client. Our team can also assist with the design of CCTV systems to ensure security is operating correctly in designated areas.

    Energy

Our energy services include energy monitoring, review and reporting for all types of buildings. We can cover heat metering (to ascertain where heat is being lost) and electrical power metering to inform decisions on future energy plans.

We can calculate efficient methods of heating and cooling buildings via various sources including gas, central heating, air source heat pumps and solar panels. Our IES thermal modelling software allows us to determine the best outcome that will save your premises energy costs in the future.

    How does our service work?

We review your existing information to understand the project at hand.

We’ll confirm and finalise your exact requirements before ensuring client approval on all details.

Our team will perform necessary technical calculations to support the design and project feasibility.

We then liaise with specialist and equipment manufacturers to select appropriate equipment.

We then develop detailed drawings to give you a visual representation of the project plan with specifications.

We create a comprehensive list of all required equipment which includes quantities, and delivery timelines.

Our team document specifications to detail on the exact installation methods and testing requirements, which must be met before handover.

Last but not least, we provide costing estimates as the design progresses to keep you informed on budgetary impacts.

How have we helped the Healthcare Industry?

    Mansfield Care Home

In Mansfield, we produced a comprehensive M&E design for ExtraCare Nursing Home in Mansfield. The premises is large enough for 32 single people over two storeys, with nurse call system and sprinkler fire protection.

    RAF Station

For a RAF Station we redesigned their dental centre as part of an extensive refurbishment project.

    Doctor’s Surgery

We’ve lead projects involved in doctor’s surgery where we were tasked with creating four new consultant’s rooms to allow for the growing demand of their medical services.

    St Helen’s Hospital

At St Helen’s hospital we provided advice on a new ventilation system for their clean room and autoclave area, ensuring sterile conditions are maintained to a high standard.

    Scunthorpe hospital

At Scunthorpe hospital we assessed moisture content in a critical plantroom, providing key insights that informed the decision to install new air handling units.

    Birmingham Hospital

For Birmingham’s main hospital we specified and oversaw the replacement of their 1MW chiller which provides cold water to the air conditioning system.  This project involved work on the roof of this 7-storey building.

    Beyond the UK

We’ve also been involved in various other projects that extend beyond the UK, as demonstrated by our contributions to hospitals in Africa. Our team designed robust data systems and provided internet connectivity to remote sites.

    Why Choose BEM?

We have years of hands-on experience across a range of industries and have built a reputation for delivery high-quality solutions through our mechanical engineering, electrical and energy services.

Specifically for the healthcare sector, we can solve complex problems to assist NHS Estates Managers and Estates Directors to ensure systems remain operational and efficient.

Our expertise also covers various NHS specialisms including medical gases and vacuum systems, meaning we can provide you with specialist support that meets the high-standards you expect.

    Installation Management

It can be a daunting task to keep track of on-going projects and installations with such complexities such as overhauling the foundations in which your building produces energy.

As part of our work, we create clear documentation that outlines precisely how products and structures should be completed, so there’s no stone left unturned. Our equipment schedules have an important place not just to ensure the job is completed with accuracy but ensure the longevity of your sustainability efforts.

    BIM

We are experienced in working at BIM Level 2 and are comfortable working alongside architects, interior designers, structural engineers and so on.

In order to create a design that is highly detailed and clear to all parties to not only cut costs and lose time, but to ensure projects are finished on their completion date to a standard that we expect to see.

    RIBA Stages

When working on a complex project that involves heating, water, gas and electricity, it is vital that proper steps are taken to ensure safety, and the overall goals of the client.

RIBA stages ensure a smooth work flow with a clear road map that can be followed by multiple skillsets as part of the project.
